What Face-to-Face and Non Face-to-Face Supports Mean at I CAN
Many families who participate in I CAN Online Mentoring use their NDIS funding to help cover the cost of the program. We understand it is not always clear what is included – so here is a straightforward breakdown of exactly what your investment covers, and why every part of it matters for your child.
Our Online Mentoring Program includes both face-to-face and non face-to-face supports. Both play an important role in helping mentees feel supported and make progress toward their goals. At I CAN, we want this to be simple and transparent.
What is the difference?
The live online mentoring sessions where mentees interact with their mentors and fellow mentees via Zoom. These are the sessions your child attends each week.
The preparation, planning and follow-up work we do outside of sessions to support your child’s participation. You may not see this work directly, but it is essential to making each session safe, engaging and tailored to your child.
Think of it this way: the session your child attends is the visible part of the iceberg. Everything beneath the surface – the matching, the planning, the communication, the review – is what makes that session work well for them specifically.
What happens behind the scenes?
Once you have completed a service agreement and shared your child’s goals, our team gets to work well before the first session even begins.
Before the program
- We match mentees into suitable groups based on age, interests and support needs.
- We assign the right mentors to each group.
- We create a profile for each mentee, including their interests, strengths and support needs.
- We plan sessions based on individual and group goals.
- We offer 1:1 preparation sessions for programs like Minecraft Social Servers and D&D campaigns.
During the program
Each week, our team:
- Prepares and adapts sessions to respond to how the group is going.
- Creates personalised supports such as visuals or prompts where needed.
- Checks in and communicates with families.
- Provides extra support if a mentee is struggling.
- Writes session notes and tracks each mentee’s progress.
- Reviews sessions to keep improving quality and safety.
Ongoing support
- We monitor progress and update support strategies as needed.
- We communicate any concerns or changes with families promptly.
After the program
- We review the program to improve future delivery.
- We can provide reports for allied health professionals if needed (available as an additional service).

Our commitment to you
We believe families deserve clarity about what they are paying for and confidence that it is worth it. Here is what we commit to for every family in our program:
- We do not charge NDIS participants more than private clients – our pricing is consistent and fair.
- We provide transparent billing so you always know what is being claimed and why.
- We deliver high-quality, personalised support – no two mentees are treated the same way.
By combining face-to-face sessions with thoughtful behind-the-scenes work, we ensure every mentee has the best chance to build confidence, develop skills and feel genuinely connected.
If you have questions about our program, NDIS claims or how to get started, our team is always happy to help. You can also visit our FAQs page for more information, or explore the full I CAN Online program page to see what is currently available.
