More than a shared game

Space to connect, in your own way.

An interest to start from

A build, a discovery or an idea can be the beginning of a conversation. Young people connect through something they already enjoy.

Mentors who understand

Autistic mentors guide sessions, support group agreements and help young people feel comfortable with their peers.

Less pressure to perform

Join in through building, voice or chat. Camera use is optional, and there’s space to settle in at a comfortable pace.

A little preparation

What do we need to join?

Our Minecraft groups use a private Bedrock server alongside Zoom. You’ll receive joining information after enrolment is confirmed.

Your Minecraft setup

  • A copy of Minecraft Bedrock Edition and a Microsoft account.
  • A compatible device and reliable internet.
  • Access to Zoom alongside Minecraft. A second device can make this easier.
  • Check device compatibility with our team before buying anything for the program.

Our support

  • Private server access for the I CAN group.
  • Mentors supporting participants in the session.
  • Clear group agreements and different ways to participate.
  • A chance to share questions and support needs through your Expression of Interest.

Your next steps

From “this looks good” to logging on.

1

Choose a group

Compare the age range, play style and times. Select “Express interest” on the session that suits you.

2

Share your preferences

Your chosen session is prefilled in the Expression of Interest form. Tell us a little about your young person and what helps them participate.

3

Hear from our team

We review fit and availability, then email you about next steps. Review an offer and service agreement before confirming enrolment.

No payment is taken on this page. Submitting an Expression of Interest does not guarantee a place.

Good questions

A few things you might be wondering.

What’s the difference between Creative and Survival?

Creative groups focus on imaginative building and shared projects without survival pressure. Survival groups involve gathering resources, exploring and working through challenges together. The current Creative options include ages 7–22; Survival options are for ages 13–22.

Will they actually play Minecraft?

Yes. All options on this page are Minecraft social server sessions, with gameplay alongside mentor support and connection through Zoom.

What if they’re nervous or new to the group?

They can take time to settle in. The shared interest gives everyone somewhere to start, and mentors support different ways of joining in. Tell us about any worries or support needs in your Expression of Interest so our team can discuss what might help.

Do they have to use their camera or talk?

Camera and microphone use are optional in our Minecraft server sessions. Young people can use chat and participate through building and gameplay. Our team can discuss their communication preferences before enrolment.

Do we need Bedrock or Java? Will our device work?

You need Minecraft Bedrock Edition and a Microsoft account to access our server. Java Edition does not connect to this server. You also need to be able to join Zoom.

Device and console requirements vary. If you’re unsure about your setup, ask our team before purchasing software or a subscription.

How are the groups supported?

Sessions use a private Minecraft server and are facilitated by I CAN mentors. Group agreements, moderation and mentor support help young people play and connect in a supportive space.

How often do the weekly groups meet?

Cycle 5 Minecraft groups meet on the same weekday for six 2-hour sessions, with no session in the 2–6 November break week.

Cycle 5 times use AEDT. These are Sydney / Melbourne times; check the difference for your location.

What does it cost, and do we pay now?

Each weekly Minecraft program is $479.50 AUD for all six sessions. No payment is taken on this page. The team will share the next steps if a suitable place is available.

Can I ask about NDIS or funding?

Yes. Include your question in your Expression of Interest, or contact the I CAN Online team to discuss your circumstances and the current options.

Does expressing interest reserve a place?

No. The team reviews your preferences, suitability and availability before sending an offer. You’ll hear from us by email about the next steps.

Still have a question?

We can help with fit, devices or the next steps.
