Built around interests

Shared interests give young people a natural starting point for conversation, activities and connection.

“This really is such a worthwhile initiative. For Jas to be finding connection through humour and shared interests, (when she is situationally mute in most environments and platforms, and misses those opportunities to reveal her true nature), it’s a massive step towards our goals so thank-you!”Parent of an I CAN Online participant

Low pressure participation

Young people can join from home, with flexible ways to participate where suitable for the group.

“I have been impressed with the acceptance of different types of engagement – he is not ready to have his video turned on but is happy to engage in the chat function which the mentors always acknowledge. It’s great to have such a supportive space for different capacities and types of engagement.”Parent of an I CAN Online participant

“Relief after the first session”

“I just wanted to let you know my son did his first ever session with your team tonight and whilst he was super nervous and wanted to keep waving me over to check his answers before he shared in the group, he was super engaged and happy throughout the whole session. And when it ended, he jumped up and said it was so much fun and he wanted to tell me all about it. Thank you so so much for having this option available. I cannot explain the relief and overwhelming emotion I felt at seeing him “find his people”. We are looking forward to the rest of this week online.”

I have found my people

“She has been really struggling with her mental health this year and finding the transition to high school super tough. She came out of the first session saying “Mum, I have found my people” with such a big grin on her face – bigger than I have seen in a long long time. So thank you isn’t really enough to convey just how amazing even just the first two weeks have been.”

A chance to belong from a rural area

“The best thing my teen got out of the program was a feeling of belonging, and a real boost to her self esteem and self identity. Living in a rural area it’s not easy to find local groups or attend other in person groups in the city, but the online program gave her a chance to ‘chill out’ and be social with some peers that she otherwise would not have had. It made such a difference to her mental health and wellbeing.”

A confidence boost

“My eldest started one of their online mentoring groups again last night and he came out after it really happy. I think just hearing from other neurodiverse kids makes him feel like he belongs and that there is a whole wonderful community of kids who think in similar ways to him. If you have a neurodiverse tween or teen who is in need of a confidence boost, I cannot recommend enough how valuable these sessions are.”
