About +

I CAN® Online Minecraft social servers offer year-round, monthly Minecraft Creative Saturday morning sessions where autistic young people aged 7 – 22 craft new worlds inside a secure, mentor-guided Bedrock server. When your young person craves a quick dose of creative connection, our Minecraft Social Server sessions are ready. Scheduled several times a month throughout the calendar year, our Minecraft server sessions allow participants to enrol in our 2-hour build adventure. Led by trained autistic mentors who stay both on-screen and in-game, every session blends low pressure free-build time with optional mini-games and challenges, all in a private server configured for maximum safety (Creative mode, PvP off, no TNT).

We may also offer a 6 week Minecraft Server for mentees aged 13-22 years in our Online Group Mentoring Cycles. These sessions are held on different days and times depending which Cycle is active. View the session timetable on our Cycle page for more information.

You’ll also spot occasional Minecraft Social Server blocks inside our Online Programs (April, July, September, January), which involve a 3-day server. Whether you join a Saturday server session, a 3-day server or 6 week server the experience is the same: a welcoming space to collaborate, chat, and celebrate autism-powered creativity.

Format: Single-session, 2 hour blocks, via Zoom + private Bedrock server
Age range: 7 – 22 years
Mentor ratio: ~10 mentees : 2 autistic mentors

Flexibility: Cameras/mics optional; voice or text chat; build solo or team up
Safety settings: Whitelisted server, Creative mode only, PvP off, TNT disabled, first names only

How to join in three easy steps

Check the timetable: New dates drop regularly; book the sessions that suit your schedule.
Complete enrolment: One quick form covers consent, device details and (if relevant) NDIS plan-manager info.
Log on & build! Listen to a brief introduction to the server, including group goals and agreements to keep everyone safe. Then we turn on the server and everyone is ready to build! All participants receive a pre-session email with the Zoom link, server IP, a quick-start guide and mentor bios.

What are the I CAN Online Minecraft Social Server Sessions?

Our Minecraft Social Server Sessions provide a safe, moderated online space where autistic young people can have fun, connect and work together while building and exploring the world of Minecraft. While the program offers meaningful benefits in terms of communication and teamwork, its primary focus is on building social connections with autistic peers.

Who can join these groups?

These sessions are open to autistic/neurodivergent young people who enjoy Minecraft, Each group includes up to 10 mentees aged between 7 and 22 years, matched with peers of a similar age. In some cases, a group may include a wider age range, with parental consent.

How do the sessions work?
Each session runs for around 120 minutes. Sessions are hosted on our secure Minecraft server. I CAN staff and mentors are present to guide activities, help with technical issues and support social connections.

Sessions include group projects (building challenges, mini-games, etc.).

Certain programs and specific groups may have different run times. Check your respective EOI form for the full details.

What if I’m new to Minecraft?
What equipment do I need?

A PC, Nintendo Switch, Ipad or Xbox that can connect to our secure server and another device that is able to connect to Zoom at the same time with video and voice capabilities. It is up to you if we see and hear you on Zoom, as you are more than welcome to use the Zoom chat function to communicate.

Will there be help to connect to the server?

We will provide step by step visual guides that will walk you through connecting different devices to our server and our FAQ document covers common troubleshooting issues.

There will be a tech session available in the same week as the session, where you are able to connect to the server ahead of time to troubleshoot any technical issues that may arise ahead of the session with I CAN staff. On the day of the session, the staff will still be able to provide assistance with connecting to the server once the session has begun.
How do I register?

Click the orange ‘Apply Now’ button near the session you would like to join. This will open a registration link for a Minecraft session, where you can fill out your expression of interest. You’ll receive an offer via email and once you have returned a service agreement you will be successfully enrolled in the program. Just prior to commencement of the session, a welcome pack will be sent via your nominated email with all the program information.
Are the sessions moderated?

Yes. Safety is a top priority. Our team of trained I CAN mentors and staff monitor the sessions live, ensuring a safe, respectful and inclusive environment. There is an I CAN supervisor overseeing the program who is available to families if support and assistance is required throughout the duration of the program.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

To participate you/ your young person need to:

Currently in one of the age groups specified and located in Australia.
Aware that they are Autistic, unless participating in the I CAN Imagination Club® group.
Comfortable engaging via online and understanding that this may provide some sensory challenges for individuals who are sound sensitive as the online environment may prove to be noisy in some sessions.
Willing to take part in a group activity in the afternoon or evening (this can be difficult for some individuals who need significant “down time” in the evening, so please consider preferences and needs)
Can attend the allocated day and time.
Be aware that an Expression of Interest form has been submitted and is willing to participate.
Understand that a cancellation policy is in place and is willing to accept its terms upon acceptance of a spot.
Will need to be able to abide by our ICT terms and conditions which ensure online safety and positive cyber participation.
